NSSEA Doubles the School Facility Improvement Grants
National School Supply and Equipment Association — Saturday, July 14, 2012
(Silver Spring, MD) - The National School Supply and Equipment Association (NSSEA) is pleased to announce that 126 colleges and school districts were approved for the 2012 School Facility Improvement Grants that will fund travel and participation to the School Equipment Show, November 7-9 in Tampa, FL. Each year, the School Equipment Show showcases the newest and most innovative products for educational facilities and provides professional development for school facility decision makers.
"With twice as many applications received this year, there is clearly a need for professional development and product sourcing among school buyers and facility managers, particularly when budgets are still so tight," said Gregory Cooney, NSSEA Chairman and Co-Owner of the Frank Cooney Co. "I wish the selection committee could have granted awards to all the schools and colleges that clearly would benefit by attending the School Equipment Show."
Winners for this year include 100 school districts and 26 colleges with a total of nearly $6.4 billion in planned renovation and construction. Grant winners are from 39 states, three Canadian provinces, and Puerto Rico. Buyers from many of the major school systems were approved to attend the School Equipment Show including: Houston Independent School District, Dallas Independent School District, Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools, Durham District School Board, Northside Independent School District, Portland Public School District, Toronto District School Board, North East Independent School District, and Saint Paul Public Schools, just to name a few. Community colleges and four-year institutions were also among the winners. See the full list at www.SchoolEquipmentShow.com/grantwinners.
"If the show continues to grow as it has this year, NSSEA hopes to expand this program and help improve even more educational facilities in the years to come," said Greg Moore, NSSEA Treasurer and CEO of MooreCo. "My company doubled its booth space this year to meet the needs of the school facility buyer and architect community that is making the School Equipment Show its new home."
