MarcoPolo Learning To Open New Global Headquarters in London

Move Follows Recent Funding Round and Expansion; Mobile-Based Content Company Doubles Down on the UK in Face of Upcoming Brexit by Launching Studio and Production in London with Focus on Making Early Childhood Education Accessible to All

NEW YORK - June 8, 2017 - MarcoPolo Learning, the award-winning mobile-based early childhood education company, is running contrary to common post-Brexit philosophy by taking advantage of incentives for studio production in the UK with the opening of its new global headquarters in London this June. The move follows a major financing round and partnership with Boat Rocker Media and its family of companies as well as London-based VC firm Seedcamp and will spark an active summer for the company as it expands its content offerings. MarcoPolo's new global headquarters in London will also usher in an expansion of the MarcoPolo Learning team with over 30 new anticipated hires added to contribute to animation, engineering, and product development.

"The UK has made it very attractive for production studios to do work in the country," said Justin Hsu, CEO of MarcoPolo. "By opening our headquarters in London we're able to tap into a vibrant creative talent market at an attractive cost versus other creative talent markets. This will help fuel our recent partnership with Boat Rocker Media and help us produce amazing animated content."

"While uncertainty regarding Brexit has understandably caused a number of other startups to consider leaving London, for us it is hard to deny the three 'T's' that London has to offer: talent, tax incentives for creative companies like ours, and time-zone advantages when it comes to selecting a global headquarters," added Nazar Yasin, MarcoPolo's Executive Chairman.

MarcoPolo Learning's partnership with Boat Rocker Media will produce original premium animated long-form video content in the coming months that will help extend the early childhood education company's portfolio.  By leveraging Boat Rocker's global video distribution expertise and team of over 400 in-house animators and producers, the company will be able to develop more programming based on characters who share an innate desire to explore the wonders of the natural world. The company recently announced more than $8.5 Million in funding from Boat Rocker Media and a number of leading technology investors from around the world.

MarcoPolo Learning was founded as an early childhood education solution for the mobile age by two technology and investment veterans with a mission to build a global, mobile-based "early childhood school in your pocket". Nazar Yasin, MarcoPolo's co-founder and executive chairman, is a former Goldman Sachs and Tiger Global executive who has led or invested in a number of "unicorn" Internet companies around the world including YY in China, Forticom in Russia, and other technology businesses in Latin America, Africa, and other markets. His partner and co-founder, Justin Hsu, CEO of MarcoPolo, was previously the founder of PMG Financial, a specialist in retirement planning services for K-12 school teachers, which he sold to Zurich Financial. He was also a founder of 10 Music, an artist management company based in London, and board member of The Institute of Play, a Gates-based non-profit with a mission to transform education using a unique game-based approach.

MarcoPolo Learning mobile apps are currently used by more than 5 million children in over 150 countries including the U.S., China, Russia, UK, and Japan. All of MarcoPolo's app and video products seek to expand the possibilities for children by giving them the opportunity to explore environments that might normally be beyond their reach, leveraging the two primary content formats that children engage with on mobile devices globally: interactive apps and narrative video.
