Datatel Releases Newest Datatel Intelligent Learning Platform

New Features Focus on Enhanced Usability for Faculty

ANAHEIM, Calif.--(via BUSINESS WIRE)--Datatel today announced the October general availability of the Datatel Intelligent Learning Platform™ version 1.1, the company’s latest release which continues to expand upon the real-time interoperability between academic and administrative computing systems delivered in release 1.0. The Datatel Intelligent Learning Platform provides a compelling feature-rich alternative at a lower cost of ownership to the traditional approach of institutions maintaining a non-real-time connection between a stand-alone learning management system and a student administrative system. The Intelligent Learning Platform version 1.1 includes new enhancements, features, and expanded real-time integrations to help higher education faculty reduce their administrative burdens and drive efficiencies so that they may spend more time with their students. The new version also takes greater advantage of advanced user-friendly features offered by Datatel’s strategic partner, Moodlerooms, which leverages Moodle®, an open-source learning management system.

The announcement was made at EDUCAUSE 2010, where a fully functioning version of the Intelligent Learning Platform v.1.1 is being demonstrated in the company’s booth (#1700).

Colleges and universities that have successfully implemented Datatel’s Intelligent Learning Platform are realizing a significantly lower total cost of ownership when compared to the level of effort and hidden costs associated with supporting and maintaining the integration connections between traditional stand-alone learning management systems and administrative systems. This is possible because the Datatel Intelligent Learning Platform enables seamless interoperability with Datatel Portal, Datatel Colleague®, and Moodle. Moodle is the world-wide leading open-source learning management system noted for its ease-of-use, high adoption rates, and low cost of ownership.

Key Features of ILP v.1.1 include:
• Cross-listing visibility for faculty to manage course content across different sections of a common course.
• Usability Enhancements to “My Classes” that provide real-time snapshots of all course activity within any course site a professor is teaching.
• Improvements to the Datatel grading user interface to Moodle.
• Tighter integration with Moodlerooms joule® course template system.

“Our mission at Loyola is to ensure that every student is successful in their chosen field of study and gets the most out of their university experience,” said Louise A. Finn, chief information officer and assistant vice president of Technology Services at Loyola University Maryland. “To accomplish this, it is critical that both administrative staff and faculty are able to see a holistic view of our students to better support and retain them. With Datatel’s Intelligent Learning Platform and Moodle, we’re doing just that as all administration and academic information is available to staff and faculty. And we’re doing it at a lower cost.”

“We’re very proud and excited to offer the latest version of the Datatel Intelligent Learning Platform,” said Kyle Loudermilk, vice president of product management at Datatel. “Our clients understand that maintaining fragmented, silo-based learning management systems and administrative systems consume valuable IT resources while creating unnecessary administrative burdens on faculty that draw them away from spending more time with students. The Datatel Intelligent Learning Platform ensures that our client faculty achieves more value through system interoperability, at lower cost, in an easier to use fashion than any competitive combination of solutions available today.”
