Free, Online, Open-Licensed Professional Development Groups for K-12 Teachers Available for Summer
San Francisco, CA - May 22, 2012 - The Peer to Peer University (P2PU) today announces a new round of courses at the School of Ed, expanding the model of open, community-based peer learning for professional development for K-12 teachers.
Summer course titles include: PhET Simulations for Science and Math, Global Dialog: International and Comparative Perspectives on Education, ePortfolios for Teachers, Syndicated Education in Distributed Learning Environments, Making Writing and Literacy Learning Connections, Curating Our Digital Lives, and Reimagining Developmental/Basic English Curriculum.
These courses will be run between June and July, 2012 and are available for sign-up now at www.p2pu.org/school-of-ed.
The courses are being designed and administered by educational experts and practitioners and include partnerships with the National Writing Project (NWP), PhET Interactive Simulations at the University of Colorado Boulder, the National Repository of Online Courses (NROC), Bon Education, and K12 Handhelds.
Started in the fall of 2011, the P2PU School of Ed has hosted 14 courses and served over 600 educators.
"We've been very happy with the continued growth of the School of Ed," says P2PU Executive Director Philipp Schmidt. "We are building a community based on hands-on, learner-driven professional learning that seems to be resonating strongly with K-12 teachers worldwide."
Participant response has been very strong. One participant said, "It was liberating to see the tools I received from P2PU while others around me taking Master's...struggled through papers only, reading and responding… and with P2PU, it was all about empowering what you did and didn't know in a completely unrestricted environment. An excellent and memorable learning experience!"
