Certification Intended To Ensure Students Have 'Attained General Body of Knowledge'
SEATTLE (February 16, 2011) - The University of California Office of the President (UCOP) certified Apex Learning's high school courses for freshman admission to the university system stating they fulfill the "a-g" subject requirements.
Apex Learning, the leading provider of digital curriculum for secondary education, offers courses in the "a-g" instructional areas, defined by the UCOP as history/social science, English, math, language other than English, and college-preparatory electives.
"Our courses are rigorous, standards based, and prepare students with the academic skills to succeed in college," said Cheryl Vedoe, CEO of Apex Learning. "UCOP certification is an important independent validation of the high quality of our curriculum to students, teachers and administrators."
Fulfilling "a-g" requirements ensures "the student has attained a body of general knowledge that will provide breadth and perspective to new, more advanced study," according to the University of California Curriculum Integrity Institute.
Apex Learning provides digital curriculum to schools and districts throughout California. The company authors and publishes a comprehensive digital high school curriculum to meet the needs of a wide range of students across the country.
Courses are written by an in-house team of experienced curriculum developers. Multiple course pathways reach students who are struggling, on pace to graduate or seeking to accelerate their learning. College preparatory offerings include the Honors pathway and Advanced Placement courses authorized by the College Board in math, science, English, social studies and world languages.
