Well, many of you were soaking up the sun in San Diego and enjoying what I heard was a fabulous ISTE conference this week. I was working from Houston and trying not to notice the 100+ degree heat here! But we all made it to the weekend and some well-deserved time off. I have a few scoops for you before you go!
Ch-ch-ch-changes....
Pat Harrigan, former Senior Vice-President and executive at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, has recently joined Istation to serve as Senior Vice-President and Director of Istation's National Sales Team. As National Sales Director, Pat will lead and continue to develop Istation's sales and marketing efforts. Join me in congratulating Pat on his new role!
At Peoples Education, Victoria Ameer Kiely has been promoted to Vice President Sales & Marketing. The promotion is reflective of the company's commitment to build and maintain a strong and dynamic management team across its unique portfolio of businesses. In her new role, Victoria will lead both the marketing vision as well as the sales strategy for testing, assessment, and instruction, which is critical in driving accelerated growth in this dynamic business. Her focus will be on leading Peoples Education brand strategy and executing effective, as well as transformational, enterprise-wide sales management solutions. In her previous 13-year role of Vice President, Marketing, Victoria built a very impressive team that has positioned Peoples Education to become one of the premier providers of high quality, state-specific, printed preparation and practice materials. She played a critical role in driving Peoples Education transition into the digital world and recently with the launch of Measuring Up Live. Congratulations, Victoria, on your terrific and well deserved promotion!
Our friend Kathryn Allen is transitioning to an exciting new role at Collaborative Learning Inc. as Chief Strategy Officer/Executive Vice President. In her new role, she will focus on the company's Mergers & Acquisitions initiative. CLI has experienced year over year growth during the past three years since she joined, and the company now plans to focus on the strategy to capitalize on its new services and success. I will look forward to seeing Kathryn at EdNET in September. You can check in with her now and wish her the best on her promotion at kathryna@clihome.com.
KEH Communications has hired Lauren Burke to serve as an account coordinator. Lauren attended The Pennsylvania State University on a lacrosse scholarship, where she majored in Advertising and minored in English. Following graduation, she obtained a certification of completion from The Institute of Children's Literature. Lauren's communications background includes two Baltimore internships at Rooftop Communications and TBC as an Account Executive and Media/PR intern, respectively. She fell in love with Public Relations during her stint as Marketing Coordinator for Navy Gear, while working on cause marketing campaigns for Cell Phones for Soldiers and Operation Gratitude. Her interest in PR only furthered when she was the Publicity Chair for The Maryland Writers' Association, an organization that she is still actively engaged in. Lauren is excited to join KEH Communications as an Account Coordinator because it combines her passion for public relations, writing, and education. When she isn't working for KEH, she writes the Green Hornets column for The Capital, Annapolis's daily newspaper, and enjoys reading, running, beach cruising, Bikram yoga, and Stand Up Paddleboarding. Welcome Lauren to the KEH team at lauren@kehcomm.com.
Kudos...and please vote!
Melissa Rich, Founder and President, InterSchola, let me know this week that her company has been nominated for Businessweek's list of America's Most Promising Social Entrepreneurs 2012. Earlier this year, the publication asked readers to tell them about entrepreneurs building promising businesses that tackle social ills. More than 300 suggestions were narrowed to 25 for-profit social enterprises. Scroll through the list of interesting companies to find Interschola's description—you will see a picture of a heap of school surplus. Melissa and I both want you to know you can also click on the blue word "VOTE" on the main webpage to go directly to a voting page where you will see the 25 nominated companies. Please vote by July 12th and help put Interschola in the top five vote-getters to be announced on July 19th. And join me in congratulating Melissa and her team on their amazing work and this most recent recognition at mrich@interschola.com.
Have a terrific weekend, everyone—daughter Amanda, granddaughter Makenzie, and I will be going to the musical Pinkalicious on Saturday, and I can't wait—we have front row seats!
With the shortened week next week, we will be sending out a special version of our newsletter, and the Snoop is taking time off from her column. George and I will enjoy the 4th with family at our home, BBQing and hanging out by the pool. So let me say a special message now to those of us in the United States celebrating Independence Day next week. Let's be reminded as we gather with families and friends to give thanks for the freedom and independence our wonderfully diverse people enjoy and cherish in this country. Find your own way in thoughts or prayers or other tangible ways to also think of and thank the men and women serving in other parts of the world—and their families who also deeply sacrifice—on behalf of all of us. Enjoy your weekend and your 4th, friends! Till next week....Vicki, the Snoop
