Teachers and Parents Use Portal To Keep Tabs; Connections Education Strikes Deal with Whizz Education To Supply Schools with Math- Whizz Tutoring Plus
Baltimore, MD (September 7, 2011)–Connections Education, provider of K–12 online learning solutions, announced today it will supply its 22 Connections Academy virtual public schools with access to Math-Whizz Tutoring Plus, the online math tutoring program created by Whizz Education. In September, thousands of virtual public school students in grades 3 through 9 who are enrolled in Connections Academy virtual schools and programs will be able to engage Math-Whizz’s interactive, animated online world for help to learn math. While students across 21 states use the program to increase their “Math AgeTM”, teachers and parents will use Math-Whizz to track their progress and provide them with encouragement.
When students sign-in to Math-Whizz for the first time, the program will assess their skill level and determine their Math AgeTM, a proprietary metric unique to Math-Whizz that identifies a student’s math ability relative to their chronological age. Using this assessment data to inform instruction, Math-Whizz creates a dynamic, interactive curriculum specific to the student’s instructional needs. Through Math-Whizz, teachers and parents can monitor student progress, email encouraging messages and print certificates of achievement. The program is completely web-based, so teachers, parents and students can access the program anytime, anywhere.
“We are excited to be the first virtual school to rollout this pioneering approach to teaching children math,” said Dr. Patricia Hoge, Connections Education’s Senior Vice President for Curriculum and Instruction. “With its compelling, customized and collaborative approach, Math-Whizz is a natural fit in the virtual classroom.”
“We are confident that Connections Education will see results,” said Ben Keogh, CEO of Whizz Education in the Unites States. “Math-Whizz is extremely effective because it makes learning math fun, provides a path of personalized instruction and involves teachers and parents every step of the way. Our mission is to help ensure that every student hasaccess to the information and inspiration they need to succeed in math.”
